Community Champion Winner 2021-2022, Barry Edwards
Barry’s nominator said, I would like to nominate Barry Edwards for a Community Champions Award.
Barry runs a successful business, caring for the elderly, but still finds the time to help out the local community.
He is heavily involved with Quakers, who opened up in the midst of a storm to ensure that the homeless population had a warm, safe place to sleep. He, along with volunteers, run the soup kitchen providing hot meals to local residents, vulnerable adults and the homeless.
Barry has been a trustee at Somewhere to Go for many years and has fought tirelessly to help the vulnerable rough sleepers of our town move forward into accommodation.
He is highly respected, supportive, a friend, a listening ear and a warrior in our community and has been for so many years. He is the driving force behind many a project in Weston-super-Mare, often without reward.
I would love a little recognition for Barry and for him to know that his hard work, dedication and determination does not go unnoticed.
I hope that you will consider this nomination.
Richard Nightingale, Community Champions Founder said, “Barry is a very worthy winner of the 2021 and 2022 Community Champion’s Awards and my heart felt congratulations to him.”

“I have been so pleased to see, in this year’s round of Community Champions, recognition given to a number of new projects and groups, who involve large numbers of community spirited residents, all working tirelessly to help others. Only by working together can we address some of the issues that challenge our daily lives and I do hope this will grow in the future. Our winners are exceptional champions of the community and besides the groups there are many worthy individuals who deserve recognition. I only wish we could give an award to all our nominees, every year it gets more and more difficult to be able to make a choice and I thank the judges for giving up their time to be part of this challenging process.”
The Community Champion Awards was founded by Richard Nightingale and funded by the Nightingale Group Bristol Self Storage to make sure those in the community that help others are recognised.
